If you are travelling on from Siem Reap, you can cross Tonle Sap Lake by private boat instead of the highway. You see the lake the way the people who live on it do: the fishing villages, the open water, the river mouths. We have representatives right around the lake, so we can arrange a boat to Battambang, to Kompong Luong or to Phnom Penh, and quote it for your date.
Siem Reap to Battambang
Across the lake and up the Sangker River, past Prek Toal and the river villages, to the boat station in Battambang town. The classic lake journey. The arrival point can change with the season and the water level; we confirm it when we quote.
Siem Reap to Kompong Luong
Down the length of the lake to the floating town on the Pursat shore. Stay the night, or carry on to Phnom Penh by road.
Siem Reap to Phnom Penh
The whole lake, then down the Tonle Sap River to the capital. A long day on the water instead of on the highway.
How it works
WhatsApp us the route, your date, how many of you there are and your hotel, and we will come back to you with a quote. Prices change through the year with the water level, so every crossing is quoted for its date.
Included: transport from your hotel in Siem Reap to the boat port at Chong Kneas, and the boat across the lake to the next province. At the other end: we recommend asking your hotel there to pick you up at the pier when you arrive.
Frequently asked questions
What is included?
Transport from your hotel in Siem Reap to the boat port at Chong Kneas, and the boat across the lake to the next province. When you arrive, we recommend asking your hotel there to meet you at the pier.
Is the boat private?
Yes, a boat for your group, with a boatman from the lake. Small boats take up to 8; we arrange larger boats for bigger groups.
How much does it cost?
Prices change through the year with the water level, so each crossing is quoted for your date and group size. WhatsApp us your date, the number of people and your hotel, and we will get back to you with a price.
Can I go the other way?
Yes. Tell us where you are starting and we will arrange the boat towards Siem Reap.
Does it run all year?
It depends on the water. Some routes need high water; in the dry season a boat may not get through, and we will tell you honestly when we quote.
Where do I arrive?
In Battambang, at the boat station in town. Arrival points can change with the season and the water level, on every route, so we confirm yours when we quote.
