This fun, guided floating village group tour departs Siem Reap at 1:30 pm in an air-conditioned van. We head out to Kompong Khleang, a rural village located about one hour from Siem Reap. This Tonle Sap community is without a doubt the most authentic and least visited as it lacks any tourists infrastructure or amenities.
On our way to the village, we will first make a stop for sticky rice at Poom Krolahn, a collection of roadside vendors who make this popular Khmer snack every morning. We will then experience a local bakery to learn about more Cambodia treats.
Following our visit, we will continue on our journey and arrive in Kompong Khleang. Depending on the season and water levels we will either depart from the main boat dock or Wat Kompong Khleang (located in the in the center of the village). We will learn about Buddhism, tour the facilities including a government primary school and meet friendly monks before their evening prayers.
After the pagoda visit, we will continue in the boat through Kompong Khleang and out to the Tonle Sap Lake. Along the way you will see hundreds of stilted homes, some as high as 10 meters. We will then arrive at the Tonle Sap Lake and see two other floating (house-boat) communities who migrate depending on the season. After learning more about the Tonle Sap, we will witness sunset and then begin our return home. Our Kompong Khleang floating village group tour usually arrives in Siem Reap around 7:30 pm depending on the season.
Please note this tour visits Kompong Khleang Floating Village (not Kompong Phluk). You can learn the differences between the two villages here. If you’d like to visit Kompong Phluk instead, you can book your Kompong Phluk group tour here.
