While you will no doubt see Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom, there are many other temples to visit in Siem Reap province. One of the largest is the Beng Melea compound located about 40km from Siem Reap. Because the temple is far from the city center and not a part of Apsara Authority, it has not received the same attention. As a result, much of this 12th century temple is still collapsed and in total ruins. Visiting Beng Melea makes you feel more like a 20th-century explorer than a tourist. This 12th century temple also offers some of the best photography opportunities in Cambodia.
On this excursion, we will leave Siem Reap at 9:00 am and make your way to Damdek. On the way you will stop for Khmer sticky rice, a favorite countryside delicacy made fresh in the village. You’ll then take a left on the main road and sidetrack about 30km north to get to Beng Melea. After purchasing tickets, you will spend up to 2 hours visiting this unique temple at your preferred pace. Afterward, we’ll enjoy a set meal at a nearby Khmer restaurant before may our way back to Damdek. From there we will continue to Kompong Khleang, the largest floating village in Siem Reap, and take a boat tour of the village and the Tonle Sap Lake. The duration of this tour is approximately 8 hours but depends on your pace.
